Deputy Mayor Pro Tem and District 2 Council Member, Deborah Morris, was sworn in for her first term May 15, 2018.
While serving on the City Council, Deborah says she wants to partner with residents to include them in the decision-making process and give them a strong voice in City government.
Deborah has served on the Building and Fire Codes Board in Garland and as president of the North East Garland Neighborhood Association (NEGNA). She is a Certified First Responder and has served as a local Disaster Team Leader with the American Red Cross. In fact, the Dallas Red Cross has recognized her as a Volunteer of the Year. Deborah also served on the First Aid Team of the Christian Motorcyclists Association. She continues to serve as a mentor to numerous young women in the community and to co-lead the prayer ministry at Antioch Church.
Professionally, Deborah is a nationally recognized writer and public speaker. She has authored more than 140 feature magazine articles and 15 books, including Trapped in a Cave! A True Story; the Real Kids, Real Adventures book series and Teens 9-1-1. She has co-produced two reality-based television movies: Dancing in the Dark (Lifetime/1995) and Angel Flight Down (ABC/1996).
Married 44 years to Terry Morris, Deborah is the mother of three adult children and grandmother of 10. The Morrises have been Garland residents since 1985.
