 Flu Vaccines Available Now

FLU SHOT

Flu vaccination can reduce flu illnesses, doctors' visits, missed work and school due to flu; as well as prevent flu-related hospitalizations.  CDC recommends that everyone 6 months of age and older should be vaccinated.

This year the clinic will offer several types of flu vaccines that provide protection for all ages, including the regular inactivated influenza vaccine (IIV). The clinic also offers Flublok® Quadrivalent, the first high antigen content quadrivalent flu vaccine approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).  It contains three times more antigen than traditional flu vaccines, making it a great choice for seniors and those with compromised immune systems, among others.  FluBlok is manufactured without the use of eggs and is considered to be egg-free.  It is approved for persons who are 18 years and older.

Also offered is a quadrivalent high-dose influenza vaccine, Fluzone® High-Dose, licensed for people 65 years and older.  All of the flu vaccines offered by Garland Public Health are quadrivalent and are designed to protect against four different flu viruses, including two influenza A viruses and two influenza B viruses.

Most insurances are accepted with no-copay.

The low-cost flu vaccine for uninsured and underinsured children 18 years and younger has arrived and is in stock! The cost is $13 per dose.

Prevention & Control Measures

Citizens can take proactive steps to protect themselves, including:

  • Avoid others who appear sick.
  • Cover your mouth when you cough or sneeze.
  • Frequently washing hands with soap and water.
  • Keep your hands away from your eyes and nose. This is a common transmission mode for flu.
  • Using hand sanitizer when soap and water are not available.
